For too long, history has changed or completely erased the black narrative. For too long, our voices have been ignored and our experiences have been brushed off as infrequent or insignificant. People will continue to try to silence us. They will try to discredit us. We will continue to be heard.

I was a few feet behind them, close enough to hear their conversation but not close enough for them to notice me. They were discussing how "God didn't create black people" because "he wouldn't make a mistake like that".

I learned that there was one black citizen in their town, who they called Black Albert. When I reacted in shock, I was told by her brother "we only allow one n***** to live here and that's the name we gave him".

Turned out it didn't really matter as the teacher gave all Black & Mexican students C's & all white students A's & B's no matter how much or how little effort was put into our school work.

RECENT EXPERIENCES
FIRST BLACK PLAYERS IN THE NFL

The NFL as we know is it is almost 60% black, but there was a time when the NFL had only white players.

 

Back in 1920, they allowed their first two Black American players into the American Professional football Association (later renamed the National Football League), Fritz Pollard and Bobby Marshall.

 

They were the league’s only Black players that year.
